Maiz Azul starts with responsibly sourced native blue corn from the Meseta Purepecha in Michoacán. This region, often regarded as the birthplace of corn, has been home to its cultivation for over 7,000 years. The people here still maintain traditional "milpas"—mixed-crop plantations—using ancestral farming methods. Unfortunately, these practices are disappearing, making the preservation of the "milpas" and their incredible food biodiversity more urgent than ever. At La Bru, we partner with the Tierra Vivente collective, which works with generational farmers to secure organic certification for their "milpas" and find market opportunities where the true value of their unique crops is recognized. Our goal is to support the preservation of Michoacán's milpas by creating sustainable market opportunities for their native corn and sharing its exceptional flavors with the world.
